See yourself as a great bird sailing on the back of the Wind, dipping in and out of clouds and fog, back and forth across the land, swooping down to survey those beings who cannot leave the ground – drawn wherever each traditional song calls you to hear and to see how those folks live from sunrise to sunset…

Joan’s first solo album of traditional songs makes a journey from sunrise to sunset. It was recorded in one take, each song giving rise to the next. Think of it as a glimpse into the daily life of our people– the First People of this great North America.

See yourself as a great bird sailing on the back of the Wind, from current to current, dipping in and out of clouds and fog, swooping down to survey those beings who cannot leave the ground at closer range– Two-Leggeds, Four-Leggeds, Swimmers, Crawlers, Great One-Leggeds. Back and forth across the land, drawn wherever the song calls you to hear and see what it means, how those folks live– Arawak, Tsalagi, Dakota People, Ocean and Tree People– songs from all over.

Feel yourself intrigued by their sounds as they rise up to you, spiraling down to look more closely…
